The spine is made up of a number of vertebrae that rest on top of one another and are separated by discs. They receive support by the facet joints and ligaments that lie at the posterior aspect of the spine.
Over time segments (vertebrae) can become fibrous or “locked” due to excess strain being placed on them through poor posture or compensatory movements. As a result the small muscles connecting each segment become weak and the larger muscles surrounding the spine take control. This leads to reduced mobility and in time results in poor movement, discomfort and pain.
Specialised soft tissue treatment works to promote movement to these segments working deep into the tissues surrounding them. With time this restores movement, function and reduces pain.
